It has come to my attention a many number of the Slow Poke Nation have been complaining about their spot in the lineup, but does a lineup truly determine a win or well balanced team. The answer is an astounding yes. You've never read an article of a role player from the 1908 Chicago Cubs complaining about his spot in the lineup. Thats because they won the World Series, yet every other Cub team in history has had something or somebody else to blame. The difference is winning and losing. Baseball (softball) is a game in which a player can be judged by every small detail he has accomplished or failed in on the field. Statisticians have been able to look at a players box score for decades without watching them play and could tell you over the course of a career who should bat third or be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The simple truth is all have had their opportunity to prove their worth in this highly competitive team which is called Slow Poke.
If you have a problem with your spot in the order then make a statement with your bat. A single in the top of the 5th inning that starts a rally when trailing by nine runs speaks volumes rather than a deep fly out to left or a solo homerun to try and boost your power numbers.
Your overall body of work speaks volumes more than your mouth. Softball is a game if consistency and timely hitting. Some come by this naturally, some work hard to accomplish this, and some want this given to them. When a chance is placed before you how will you come through.
Slow Poke has gone through a rough spell of 2nd place finishes and with this time of Free Agents there will always be somebody standing behind you ready to take your place on the field. Remember there is only a few things to keep your name on the Pokes roster...Exceptional play, pay on time, or bring a sponsor. These are the most important features of a well balanced team. And Doug... every team needs a Doug.
