Are Pokes using Moneyball tactics?
A quick recap of this season compared to last season. With the loss of a big bat at first it was unsure who Pokes would be able to bring in to fill that void. Jim was a valuable commodity putting up big numbers including 45 hits, 14 home runs, 57 RBI's, and posting a respectable mid to high .600 average.
On top of that Jim took two other veteran bats with Mike and Bruce. The three combined last season for 110 hits and 86 RBI's. During the offseason it was not the goal to bring in a player to put up 14 HR's and 57 RBI's. Instead with the loss of three players we only needed to bring in three new guys that could put up around 36 hits, and 28 RBI's; the average of "The Departed Three".
Pokes management looked at Skyler, Josh H ,and Landon to slide in. With their injuries (ankle, quad, and golf swing) why did we bring on their mediocre defensive abilities? Simple...they get on base. Josh H has posted an incredible .700 on base percentage while Landon is doing him one better with .714. Skyler has performed out of his mind with a .778 OBP. Although Josh H is an outfielder by trade he has been taught first base (incredibly hard to learn) and done a nice job. Even though its early in the season it is unknown if they will be able to keep this pace. Looks like Pokes traded up.
Player through 6 games season pace

As a team Pokes have been destroying last seasons pace. The new "Trevor Lineup" is an astounding success; just ask Shelby and Clay. Although HR's are the same on paper with 12 this season has realistically only seen eight with four of them being inside the parkers. Nice line drive singles are keeping the rallys going. With team trust and confidence at an all time high there is no Rookie team (A team) that we can lose to.
