Polo Grounds
8pm @ Master Batters (A East)
W, 48-11
Pokes started the season off with a bang putting up a franchise best 48 runs. The argument could be made that a mix of new players or the "Trevor Lineup" gave Pokes a jumpstart.
Pokes destroyed all hope for Master Batters in the top half of the first inning sending 18 batters to the plate and scoring 14 runs.
New leadoff hitter, Sage, started the game off with a walk followed up by a Tanner single and a Zak walk. The "Trevor Lineup" came in full effect with six straight hits as Shelby, Clay, Josh P (all doubles), and Ross, Landon, and Kyle (singles) kept the rally going. Trevor walked and Josh H (he's not a Dr he's a dentist) hit a two run single to go through the whole lineup without an out.
The hits kept coming in the game with Tanner and Shelby leading with six hits. Landon also had six hits for his debut with the team.
Clay had a game high seven RBI's.
Game MVP has to go to Josh P even though he got out twice with only four hits. His hits all had purpose as he hit for the cycle. His first cycle since December 20, 2012 (vs Sigler Heat W, 46-7).

9pm @ Bombers (A West)
W, 18-7
Pokes bats slowed a bit compared to the opener, but came on late to secure the victory.
Bombers made it interesting leading after two innings four to three. Luckily they could not hold that lead.
In the third Sage led off the inning with a triple (his second lead off triple of the game) and scored on a ground out by Tanner. Zak then singled and was thrown out at second attempting to advance on an overthrow. Shelby then doubled, Clay tripled, and Josh P brought Clay in making the score six to four. Pokes would not relinquish the lead further.
After a dismal fourth inning Shelby brought the fireworks in the fifth blasting a home run to center field (estimated at 310 feet) that just cleared the wall. Clay followed it up with a blast to right center (estimated at 320 feet) that stayed in the park giving Clay his third triple of the game.
Clay takes the game MVP going four for four with three triples and two RBI's.

Get ready you slackers, let's start the season right.

ReplyDeleteQuestion stat guy, Tanner has 7 hits the first game everyone else has 6. Did I miss something? Josh has 3 the second game when people around him have 4.
ReplyDeleteYou mean AT BATS (AB). Yes. Tanner has more at bats because Sage and Zak each had a walk. Walks don't count as an AB. It is considered 0 for 0. Second game Josh has only three AB's because he hit a sacrifice fly (SF). Sacrifice flys also count as 0 for 0. Stats 101, son! I'm here all week.
